Kya Saharanpur ka kuch ho sakta hai?

Shahar me apna koi rishtedaar aye ya shahar me koi celebrity aye, Shahar ki haalat sabke samne hamari beizzati hi karati hai. Sadak tooti hui, kisi bhi main road chahe wo Delhi Road, Ambala Road, Dehradun Road, Behat Road ya koi bhi road ho ek adad streetlight bhi nahi hai. Dhero prastaav paarit lekin ya to atke pade hain ya shuru hi nahi ho paye. Maida Mill Flyover, Bypass, Medical College hain misaal ke taur pe. Sports College nadi ke beech me hi bana diye jane ke kaaran shuru hi nahi ho paya. Is waqt dil itna dukhi hai ki bataya nahi jaa sakta. Hum educate ho ke yahin reh gaye yahin par kuch karne ke liye aur hum ko yahan mil kya raha hai har waqt accident ka khatra, vehicles ko khatra, traffic jam.

Really really upset....

Dear Prashant,

He says that all religions are like rivers that intend to meet an ocean which itself is God. Still, he advises us to die for our religion than being fleeced by others’!

This confusion in your mind is due to your taking RELIGION and DHARMA as synonyms.  Dharma is a set of our duties towards ourselves and towards the community we are part of whereas RELIGION is a way of worship.  Islam, Christianity are religions but Hinduism is a DHARMA.

Now let's come to our DUTIES.  You may be knowing that each cell in our body has some personal duties and there are some duties towards its community. While personal duties are the same for all the cells, the duties towards the community depend upon their membership to a particular community.

Each cell takes birth, feeds itself with nourishing food, procreates, gets rid of waste generated by it and then after some time, it withers away. These are its duties towards itself.  However, a cell is a part of community also. As you know, our liver is composed of billions of cells;  our skin also has trillions of cells.  Community duties of a skin cell are vastly different from those of a liver cell.  A few billion cells unite to make our skeleton system, some others make the circulatory system/ respiratory, neuro, muscular system and so on.

Can a skin cell perform the functions of a blood cell ?   Can a cell which is a member of community which makes crystalline lens of our eyes, can successfully undertake the job as a member of the community which makes a muscle?  No.

Similarly, all the human beings also have their personal dharma and a social dharma.  Personal dharma consists of 10 components mentioned in धीर्विद्या सत्यमक्रोधो दशकं धर्म लक्षणम्|  These personal dharma are more or less same in all religions in the world.

Besides these personal dharma (duties) which we need to take care of, there are our community responsibilities also which differ in each case. For example, I have duty towards my family, my employer,  my neightbourhood, my city,  state, nation and the whole universe and I must try to fulfil all of those obligations.  (to be continued....)

Dear Prashant,

Although you are far more knowledgeable than this friend of yours,  I do wish to clarify some points which are causing confusion in your mind.
MOKSHA :   As you must be knowing,  moksha has been explained as liberation from the cycle of birth and death.  But the million dollar question is, how to liberate ourselves from the cycle of life and death?
It is often said that all of us are equals yet each of us is a unique person in himself / herself.  The purpose of life is to try to become equal again.  How to do that ?

Well,  let’s look at each human being as a very big diamond having thousands of facets.  Each facet of the diamond represents one particular quality of an individual e.g. love, compassion, humility, truthfulness, sense of responsibility and so on.   We may say that if a person is humble and compassionate,  the two facets of his/her diamond, which represent these two qualities in him/her are already machined and polished.  So, while all of us are diamonds, we are at different stages of fineness and that explains why we are different from each other.  But obviously,  this difference is only at the surface because core diamond is the same in all of us.  It can be said that in this school which we know of as the world,  some of us are students of LKG class while some may be at graduate or post graduate level.

The purpose of our coming to this world  and that of a student getting admission into a school are identical.  We are here to learn to clean and polish more and more facets of our diamond.  The whole diamond is not machined and polished in one lifetime so we have to come again and again.  When all the facets of our diamond are sparkling,  we are fit candidate to attain Moksha.
If a person had already cleaned twenty facets in his / her previous life time, he/she need not clean those facets again usually.  But some people are quite unfortunate because, instead of learning virtues, they start learning vices.  Thus, they go backward in their journey of life.  If they don’t correct their path in the present life time,  they will be demoted to a lower class in their next life and will have to learn those virtues again.

Different persons coming to this world have their diamonds in different stages of fineness. When you come across a person with great personal qualities in him / her, you can safely conclude that many of the sides of that diamond are already well machined and polished.  A person with lesser qualities is not intrinsically inferior to him/her.  It is just that he/she is a student of lower standard.

Dear Prashant,  if you wish to become a teacher,  you would be helping your students a lot if you make them appreciate these facts of life.

Do you find garbage being thrown on the street in your area?  If you feel that a garbage collector bin (green coloured bins put up by Nagar Nigam, Saharanpur)  is required in your area, please let us know.  The place should be easily accessible for Nagar Nigam truck also so that it can be easily emptied on daily basis.

Your Excellency the President of India,

We are extremely shocked to note that our elected democratic govt. of the Union of India has chosen to use barbaric, cruel and undemocratic means to disperse peaceful crowd consisting of women, children and senior citizens at 1.00 a.m. midnight. Our own government used brutal police force to beat sleeping children, women and aged satyagrahi people and even blocked all exits so that they might not even escape,  Taking sue motto cognizance of this highly disturbing development in the nation's capital, Hon'ble Supreme Court, has also sought explanation from the Govt. and the Delhi Police.

May we request you to express your anguish, if there is any, at the plight of those children, women and senior citizens who were there merely to support the just demand of bringing back black money into India and declare it National Asset? Your public statement would go a long way in restoring faith of the people of India in democratic institution of Government.

Please excuse me for mentioning it but if your high office chooses to remain a mute spectator at this forcible rape on democracy by democratically elected governement of yours, it would be seen by many a sheer waste of public money to maintain a Presidential Office in India.

With kindest regards,
